In this standalone message, Pastor Marcus Burget opens with the true story of Apollo 13's six minutes of radio silence to illustrate what it feels like to lose connection with home. Turning to John 15:1-5, he walks through the last of Jesus' seven I am statements, in which Jesus identifies Himself as the true vine, God the Father as the gardener, and His followers as the branches. Where Israel, pictured throughout the Old Testament as God's vine, failed in its mission to make Him known to the nations, Jesus succeeds as the true and lasting source of life for anyone who remains in Him. Pastor Marcus warns against a performance mindset that measures spiritual worth by output and comparison, explaining that fruit is a gift that flows from Christ's presence, not a payment earned by our performance. He calls us to fall in love with simply abiding in Jesus rather than chasing what Jesus can give us, and to preach the gospel to ourselves daily by returning to the cross, the empty tomb, and Christ's ongoing intercession on our behalf. The message closes with an invitation to examine our connection to the vine rather than our production for the world, trusting that abundant fruit will follow for anyone who remains in Christ.
